Gavin’s Goggles Characters
Pincher was originally a fresh water fiddler crab that we had in our first fish tank.
He was a cute little fresh water fiddler crab who liked to get into everything he could.
From fiddler crab to ocean dwelling Blue Crab, Pincher has come to life in Gavin’s Goggles. My wife and I grew up in Maryland and Maryland is known for having the most amazing Blue Crab’s you can eat. Ask anyone who has been anywhere between Baltimore, Annapolis and the Eastern Shore of Maryland and they will tell you, Maryland is for Crabs!
Blue crab facts: Will feed on nearly anything it can find, including clams, oysters, mussels, smaller crustaceans and freshly dead fish
Drew is based on my fun loving, energetic and helpful 11 yr old son. He is always trying to figure things out and and loves to help people. Drew loves the water and always feels the need to be in it whether with on a Body Board or using a skim board. Drew the Dolphin is just that, a fun loving, energetic and helpful Dolphin who wants to see Gavin get his goggles back. Read more about the real Drew here.
Dolphin fun facts: Bottlenose dolphins diet consists mainly of small fish with occasional squid, crabs, shrimp, and other smaller animals.
Dolphins teeth are not used to chew the food, but they grab and swallow. Dolphins will work as a team to keep a group of fish close together and eat as much as possible.
This beautiful and colorful creature is called an Eel.
The Eel character came to be from my niece who loves fashion and drawing with bright colors. Read a little bit about the real Elizabeth here.

Octopus fun facts: The Octopus eats crabs, crayfish, and mollusks. (Better tell Pincher not to get too close) One amazing thing to know about an Octopus is that it can instantly match the coloring, patterns and even textures to blend into it’s environment to avoid it’s predators.
Sophie the Seagull is a cute character combination of our family dog and the birds I used to watch (and still do) while on vacation. Sophie is our family dog who is full of energy and loves to bring toys for us to throw for her so she can bring them back and throw again. In my childhood I used to love watching Seagulls and the social interaction between the birds as they fly over the beach or as they fish out in the Ocean. This particular character of our book is a Ring Bill Gull. These birds can be very territorial and swoop in quickly. Read more about the real Sophie here.
Sophie fun facts: She loves to spin in circles. Sophie loves frisbee’s, tennis balls and shaking hands.
